on sunsets
traveling without you hits different
i love you, i miss you;
i miss you, i love you.
those are almost interchangeable,
these days—i say one when
i mean the other.
or more often i mean both.
a professor once said when you
love someone
you can never really be happy
without them—
or something like that. even
a beautiful sunset
isn’t as pretty because you’re missing them
as you watch.
and maybe that’s true and
maybe it’s not, but
at least, fair—
I find myself watching this one
with only half my attention.
I’m thinking of how to tell you about it
tonight.
